BEIJING - China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin met with former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo De Leon and Vietnam's State President Nguyen Minh Triet on Thursday, a day before the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games.

During the meeting with Zedillo, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, spoke highly of the positive contribution Zedillo made to boosting bilateral ties. He said China and Mexico, both as large developing countries, shared a wide-ranging consensus on maintaining world peace and boosting common development.

Attaching much importance to China-Mexico ties, China is willing to join hands with Mexico to push forward the strategic partnership.

Zedillo expressed admiration for Chinese leaders' efforts to develop the country and wished for a successful Beijing Olympic Games.

While meeting with Nguyen, Jia said China and Vietnam are good neighbors and the two peoples have enjoyed a long friendship. Bilateral ties have seen new progress in recent years, he said. The Chinese side pledged to deepen a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam.

Nguyen said Vietnam was satisfied with the sound development of Vietnam-China relations and is also willing to expand cooperation with China and further bilateral ties.

The Games is to start on Friday. More than 80 heads of states and governments and royals will attend the opening ceremony Friday evening in the National Stadium, better known as the Bird's Nest.
