Shanghai man turns himself in after killing one

SHANGHAI -- A man surrendered himself to police on Friday after he killed a woman and injured two men in a fight in Shanghai on Thursday afternoon.

The man, surnamed Zhu, attacked the trio at about 1 p.m.in a Jingan District alley, attempting to grab their money and articles, police said.

Zhu fled after a fierce fight with the three, leaving a hammer with blood stains at the scene.

The victims, all in their thirties, were rushed to Huadong Hospital. The woman died despite doctors' efforts.

The two men were in serious condition with wounds to the head and chest.

Zhu confessed he was in debt due to gambling expenses.

Police said the killer and the victims were acquaintances.
