Wen confident of overcoming difficulties

China is "fully confident" of solving problems in its path of development because of the strong leadership of the Party and the government, Premier Wen Jiabao said Monday in a speech at the annual National Day reception.

Wen recounted the momentous events China has experienced this year, ranging from the snowstorms that struck South China in February and the May 12 Sichuan earthquake to the Olympic Games and the Shenzhou VII space mission.

He said China has improved macroeconomic controls to sustain its economic growth despite the global financial crisis. "We will continue to free our minds, stick to reforms and opening-up and strive for achievements in building a moderately prosperous society," he said.
