Car plunges into river, killing six, injuring one

Updated: 2008-10-21 19:38 GUANGZHOU - A car plunged in to a river early Tuesday morning in south China's Guangdong Province, killing six people and injuring another, a local government official said. The car, carrying five men and two women, went out of control at about 2:46 a.m. on a bridge in downtown Sihui City, said Jiao Yaqiu, an official of the city government. It fell 13 meters before crashing in to the Suijiang River. Six people, including the driver surnamed Lu, died at the scene. The only survivor, a woman, is in a stable condition at a hospital, doctors said. Police said the car had only five-seats and was over capacity with seven passengers. An investigation is underway. |
