China, Serbia pledge to boost military exchange

BEIJING  -- China and Serbia vowed to further military exchanges during a meeting between defense ministers of the two countries on Wednesday.

"The People's Liberation Army of China and its Serbian counterpart will find new areas for further cooperation," said Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie.

He told Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac that China valued ties with Serbia as it was an important country in the Balkan region.

Liang, also a State Councilor, said China would enhance all-round cooperation with Serbia based on mutual respect, equality and reciprocity, as well as non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

Sutanovac said Serbia and China had maintained good momentum on bilateral ties and close coordination in international affairs.

He voiced the hope to cement cooperation with Chinese military on personnel exchanges.

He also reaffirmed to adhere to the one-China policy.

Sutanovac was here on his first visit to China from Tuesday to Saturday. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with him Wednesday morning.
