Survey finds almost half of all Guangxi students smoke

Updated: 2008-11-24 09:17 A recent survey found that 46.1 percent of students have tried smoking with 24 percent having their first cigarette before the age of 13 in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The survey, conducted by the region's Centre of Disease Prevention and Control, interviewed 25,766 local junior and senior high school and university students in Nanning, Hezhou, Qinzhou, Hechi, Guilin and Liuzhou last month. The survey results were revealed at a conference on juvenile smoking control in Nanning last week. According to the Chinese Center for Disease Prevention and Control, 32.4 percent of the country's 130 million young people aged between 13 and 18 years have tried smoking and 11.5 percent smoke regularly.
