Boost scrutiny over stimulus fund use

A senior Chinese anti-corruption official on Wednesday urged strict monitoring over the use of economic stimulus funds to reduce concerns over waste and misuse.

He Yong, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, called for more efforts to ensure the 100 billion yuan (14.5 billion US dollars) the central government earmarked for the fourth quarter was properly used.

On Nov. 9, China unveiled a 4-trillion-yuan stimulus package to spur economic growth.

The official told a meeting here that audit authorities should track the use of funds to detect loss and waste. He also vowed crackdowns on embezzlement, waste and dereliction of duty.
