Five rescued uninjured after coal mine cave-in

Updated: 2008-12-19 14:29 URUMQI -- Five people were rescued on Friday after being trapped for more than a day by a coal mine cave-in in northwest China, the local coal industry regulator said. The rescue operation finished just before 8 a.m. when all miners were removed from the Chenxingyuan Coal Mine in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China, according to the Xinjiang coal industry supervision administration.
The mine collapsed at about 6 a.m. on Thursday when six people were working underground. One worker managed to escape. The private mine, in the Midong District here in the capital of Xinjiang, was licensed. It produces about 90,000 tons of coal a year. The accident remains under investigation. |
