Updated: 2009-01-12 09:37 BEIJING -- China's installed power capacity increased 90.51 million kilowatts in 2008, up 10.34 percent year-on-year, according to the latest report of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission. The total installed power capacity reached 792.5 million kilowatts at the end of last year. The investment in power infrastructure, including power plants and power grids, grew 1.52 percent to 576.3 billion yuan (US$84 billion) last year, the report said. However, affected by the world financial crisis, the demands for electricity declined as many factories closed their production lines. In 2008, China consumed 3.4 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity, up 5.23 percent. However, the growth rate was 9.57 percentage points lower from that in 2007. |
