DAVOS, Switzerland - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Wednesday that China has acted in an active and responsible way during the current global financial crisis.

"We mainly rely on expanding effective domestic demand, particularly consumer demand, to boost economic growth," Wen told participants at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos.

He said the Chinese government has made timely adjustment to the direction of its macroeconomic policy, swiftly adopted a proactive fiscal policy and a moderately easy monetary policy, introduced 10 measures to shore up domestic demand and put in place a series of related policies.

"Together, they make up a systematic and comprehensive package plan aimed at ensuring steady and relatively fast economic growth, " the premier said.

He added that China is ready to work with other members of the international community to maintain international financial stability and promote world economic growth.

"I want to reaffirm here China's abiding commitment to peaceful, open and cooperative development," Wen said.

Switzerland is the first leg of Wen's European tour, which will later take him to Germany, the European Union headquarters, Spain and Britain.
