Updated: 2009-02-11 17:06 TAIPEI -- Taipei Mayor Hau Long-bin has invited Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng to attend a "twin-city forum" in Taipei in May, to discuss ways to increase cooperation between the two cities and improve their competitiveness. Hau extended his invitation Monday in a meeting with visiting Shanghai deputy mayor Tang Dengjie. Tang, who led a delegation of the Shanghai Association for the Promotion of Cross-strait Exchange, arrived in Taipei Sunday. In 2009, Shanghai will host a World Expo and Taipei will host the Taipei International Expo 2010. Hau said that if regular flights run between Taipei and Shanghai, the two cities will form a "two-hour" transportation circle. Hau led a Taipei delegation to Shanghai last June. The two cities signed an agreement on Taipei's participation in the Shanghai expo. In January, the Shanghai mayor told reporters that he was "very eager to visit Taipei at the earliest time." |
