Man surfaces 10 years after he was ruled dead

A man who was believed to have died during a traffic accident returned home on Friday after 10 years.

He Daming, 51, a resident in Mianhuapo township, went to work in Hainan province in 1993 and never contacted his family again. In 1998, He's family members were asked to identify a person who was killed in a traffic accident and they could not confirm if it was He's, because the face was destroyed.

They used He's height and age to conclude it was his body and buried it at their own expense.

After a careful investigation, police recently confirmed that they made a mistake and gave He a new identification card.
