Gambler tries to kill wife to hide his debts

A man was arrested after he tried to kill his wife and take possession of their property in order to settle his gaming debts.

Li owed about 186,000 yuan ($27,200) from mahjong games and never told his wife. To repay the debts, he decided to sell off their properties and he tried twice to kill her when they went for walks along a river in Jilin province.

On Jan 6, he pretended to play a game with her and then tried to strangle her from behind but failed. She called police who arrested him for attempted murder.
