BEIJING -- Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone arrived in Beijing Saturday afternoon for a two-day visit to China.

Nakasone is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. The two foreign ministers will exchange views on Sino-Japanese relations and international and regional issues of common concern, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu at a regular press conference Thursday.

It was reported that Nakasone had said earlier this week that he hoped to "exchange opinion widely to accelerate the buildup of mutually beneficial strategic relations with China" during the visit.

This is Nakasone's first official visit to China since he took office last September.
