Old Summer Palace's bronze sculptures on display
People take photographs of one of the four Old Summer Palace bronze sculptures, which will be displayed from April 25 to May 5, in Foshan, south China's Guangdong province, Wednesday April 22, 2009. Based on the 12 animals in Chinese Zodiac -- the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Cock, Dog and Boar -- the 12 sculptures formed a famous fountain in the royal palace gardens, marking the 12 hours of the day. The fountain was destroyed, along with the whole royal garden, by colonial invaders in the Late Qing Dynasty during the Second Opium War (1856-1860). [CFP]
