Fugitive farmer learns he is not wanted after 6 years

A farmer who's been on the run for six years after he attacked a fellow villager tried to surrender to police as a wanted killer but he was turned away.

The man was told that although he beat the villager, the victim did not die in Xuan'en county, Hubei province from his injuries.

Li Xiuyong, who had a fight with Lan Guisheng in 2003, escaped after he was misinformed that Lan died three days later.

When Li returned home to surrender to police late last week, he was told the man died of an illness.
