Updated: 2009-05-13 15:23 BEIJING -- China's Ministry of Health Wednesday confirmed a man in the eastern Shandong Province who recently returned from Canada tested positive for the A/H1N1 influenza. Lv, who has been quarantined, is "recovering with a normal body temperature," China's Health Ministry said on its website Wednesday.
The Chinese student who studied at a Canadian university, boarded the flight in Canada on May 7 (local time). Airport authorities said his body temperature was normal when he arrived in Beijing on May 8. Lv left Beijing by Train D41 Monday evening for Jinan, the provincial capital of Shandong, and reported by phone to the Jinan Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) while on the train. He was then sent to the Jinan Infectious Disease Hospital for isolation and treatment. The Jinan CDC and Shandong CDC conducted tests on the virus specimen of the patient Tuesday, which showed that he was "suspected positive" for A (H1N1). He is the second such case on the Chinese mainland, following a 30-year-old man surnamed Bao in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Bao was also recovering with a normal body temperature and "showing good spirits," the Health Ministry said Wednesday. The country's health authorities had begun a manhunt for those in close contact with Lv during his travels. Passengers from the 32nd to 38th row on Flight AC029 on May 8, and those who traveled on the 7th carriage of Monday's Train D41 must report to health authorities as soon as possible, it required.
