Updated: 2009-06-01 14:06 Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will pay an official visit to China from June 2 to 5 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said on May 26.
Najib's tour will be the first to China since he took office in April. It coincides with the 35th anniversary of the establishment of China-Malaysia diplomatic ties. The development of China-Malaysia relations maintains a good momentum, said Ma, adding that China expects Najib's visit could further strengthen ties and deepen strategic cooperation. As one of the world’s fastest growing economic powerhouses, China is always viewed as an attractive country for foreign investments. The relationship between Malaysia and China has strengthened since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1974. Over the years, China has been regarded as an important partner in peace, development and economic opportunities. Vast business opportunities between the two sides are necessary for a better future of the two nations. China is also an important country for Malaysia’s tourism industry. According to Tourism Malaysia, tourist arrivals from China to Malaysia reached 949,864 last year, up 21% from 783,788 in 2007. Prospects are bright for better growth. |
