China to hold national anti-terror drills

BEIJING -- China will hold a national antiterror exercise "Great Wall-6" beginning on June 9, less than four months ahead of the celebrations of the 60th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China, according to official sources.

The exercise, composing a series of specialized drills, will be carried out in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Shanxi and Hebei provinces that surround Beijing, the national capital, said a spokesman of the headquarters of the "Great Wall-6" Sunday.

The exercise, which will last through the middle of this month, is aimed to test the capabilities of these areas as well as the country's capital to combat terrorism and deal with emergencies, according to the official.

The national antiterror exercise will involve several areas, adopt various forms, and use various levels and sorts of antiterror forces, he noted.
