In a statement from his office, Nagin said they left quarantine "in the best of health and spirits."

The mayor, wife Seletha and the security guard had left Shanghai and was in Australia, said New Orleans city spokesman James Ross, from Sydney.

They had been quarantined in Shanghai Friday after a fellow passenger on his flight from the United States was suspected of contracting the A/H1N1 flu virus.

Ross also told Xinhua that the three were in good condition, and would continue their business trip in Sydney.

Nagin is on a 10-day trip to China and Australia aimed at attracting business to his city.
