Thief stabs own belly during police chase

A thief stabbed his own belly after police officers cornered him following a chase.

Police were dealing with an accident on a street in Changchun, Jilin province, on Tuesday between two drivers when the suspect reached into one of the vehicles and grabbed a bag.

The owner of the car and bag saw it and shouted for help.

Police chased Teng, 33, who was wanted for other crimes, into the corner, and asked him to drop the 20-cm-long knife. He stabbed his belly twice and was hospitalized.

"His vital signs remained too weak to be out of danger after the operation," doctors said.
