HK anti-piracy raid nets 43,000 illegal discs

HONG KONG: Hong Kong customs officers have seized more than 43,000 pirated optical discs worth about 1 million HK dollars (US$129,000) in a four-day citywide anti-piracy operation that began on June 19, a government press release said Tuesday.

Eight shops and a pirated optical discs storage warehouse were raided and 16 men, aged 16 to 61, were arrested, according to a press release from the Information Services Department of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.

The seized discs included television dramas and current movies, some purported to be blue-ray discs. The discs sold for 25 to 30 HK dollars each, the press release said.
