Jumper fails to commit suicide but kills passerby

A university student who tried to commit suicide by jumping off a building was arrested after he landed on a female student and killed her.

He was sentenced to three years and six months in prison in Guangzhou's Panyu district. The court said the defendant committed manslaughter.

The student jumped off his seventh floor dormitory in September, 2007. He knocked down a female schoolmate who was walking by the dormitory. The girl was taken to the hospital and died.

After the case, the student, 24, reached an agreement with the girl's family members for compensation.
