Three parts of Xinjiang to cancel mobile roaming fees

Three areas in the south part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will end cell phone roaming fees on August 1st, the Communication Administration Bureau of Xinjiang announced on Tuesday.

The move, which will affect more than 2 million mobile users in Hotan Prefecture, Kashi Prefecture and Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, is designed to help improve local communications and better link these parts of Xinjiang with the rest of the region, said Aili Yushan, deputy director of the local telecommunication administration.

In addition, the Communication Administration Bureau announced that from October 1st this year, telephone users in these three areas will be charged 0.2 yuan (3 US cents) per minute instead of the previous 0.3 yuan (4 US cents) per minute.
