Hong Kong is experiencing a faster temperature rise than the rest of the world according to the territory’s main weather expert, Xinhua.net reported on Monday.

Lam Chiu-ying, the former head of the Hong Kong Observatory, the city’s chief weather center, said temperature had a rise of 1.2 degrees Celsius over the last twenty years, while the global temperature has only risen an average of 0.6 degrees Celsius.

Lam predicts that Hong Kong’s temperature will rise by another degree over the next twenty years.

Hong Kong suffered its hottest day of the year so far in mid-July, with the temperature hitting 34.4 degrees in urban areas.
