Updated: 2009-08-07 16:16 CHENGDU: Sichuan Provincial People's Government held a press conference on August 6 to announce a plan to select 28 new local government officials. For the first time, applicants from Chinese citizens living overseas will be accepted, Wang Chun, the deputy chief of the Organization Department of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, said. The 28 positions include 16 deputy chiefs at the provincial government's department level and 12 vice presidents for local universities. Among the open slots at the deputy chief level are positions as deputy director-general and vice-chairperson of the provincial economic committee. "These 28 positions are all positions for key fields, so they demand candidates' high qualification," Wang said. The selection process consists of two parts: an examination and inspection of application materials. The examination tests candidates' comprehensive and leadership abilities, while the inspection focuses on applicants' working experience, personality, performance and achievements. The process will be publicized on a website and presided over by a special group in an attempt to keep it transparent. Its guidelines will be "Democracy, Openness, and Competitiveness." In addition, the selection will be guided by scientific outlook on development and Sichuan's development policy after last year's magnitude-8 earthquake, he said. Applicants can visit www.gcdr.gov.cn or www.scpta.gov.cn for more information and to download relevant documents. Applications will be taken from August 7 to August 25. |
