Power failure closes Chengdu airport

The Chengdu Shuangliu Airport closed after a major power cut caused by a failure at a converting station this morning stranding thousands of travelers in the city, China National Radio reported today.

Arriving flights were forced to land at airports in nearby cities, and all outbound flights were delayed.

The power supply was restored later in the afternoon, China Central Television reported.
