SEF expresses sympathies over mainland's losses
BEIJING: The Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) on Tuesday voiced its concern and sympathies to people on the Chinese mainland who suffered from typhoon Morakot.
Via a letter forwarded to the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), the SEF thanked the ARATS for the latter's earlier concern over Taiwan's losses in tyhpoon Morakot, which was also conveyed through a letter on Monday.
Based on media reports, typhoon Morakot has also caused great losses on the mainland, the SEF letter read. It expressed hope that people on both sides can rebuild their homes and resume normal life as soon as possible.
Typhoon Morakot has killed eight people on the Chinese mainland and forced some 1.57 million people to be relocated as of Tuesday, government statistics show.
