Beijing water polluters to face checkup

A total of 12 beverage and milk makers, including Beijing PepsiCo, Beijing Coca Cola, and Beijing Huiyuan Group, have been designated major water polluters in Beijing, the Beijing News reported today.

The 12 major water polluters, compared with other enterprises, use more water in their producing process, and discharge more sewage, the paper said. They will have to show improvements by a checkup in August.

However, Beijing Coca Cola said yesterday that its water and sewage handling processes are in accordance with the Chinese regulations, and that they only release waste water it has been treated to the point that fish can live in it, the Beijing News said.
