Cultural units to become companies in reform

A total of 42 national performance groups will be reorganized into business entities by the end of this year, the Ministry of Culture said today, the website of People’s Daily reported. The State-owned troupes and cultural units like Hebei Acrobatic Troupe, Shanxi Dance Company, and Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center are on the list.

Performance groups are non-governmental organizations, which are largely subsizied by governments. Since 2006, China started to push forward its reform of cultural system  to let the organizations to adapt to the market economy. For the first time that China allows the state-owned performing troupes to be transformed into enterprises to introduce non-public capital in the shareholding reform. The reform is also undergoing in the publication industry.
