More kids to take lead poinsoning screening

Children of six villages in Fengxiang county, Shaanxi province, will be screened to see if they were affected by the lead contamination, when the government trapped in the recent lead poisoning scandal in northwest China’s Shannxi province decided yesterday to expand the scope of free check-ups to more villagers, the Xinhuanet.com reported Thursday.

The children under age of 14 in the six villages, who live not very closely to the smelting plant, can receive free check-ups, the government of Fengxiang county promised by launching a new health check-up programs to make the villagers be less nervous.

As of today, 851 among the 1016 children in Fengxiang county have been tested, and 163 children have been hospitalized for abnormal lead level in their blood.
