Brothers kidnap woman to save ill mother's life

Police in Sanyuanli, Guangdong province, have arrested two brothers who kidnapped a woman for ransom so they could save their ill mother's life.

The suspects' mother suffers from a cerebral hemorrhage. Surgery that could save her costs about 18,000 yuan ($2,650).

The brothers, from Chongqing municipality, kidnapped a woman from outside a public toilet last week and demanded a ransom of 18,000 yuan from the police for her safe return.

They were arrested the same day but the local police department promised to donate the amount required for their mother's surgery.
