GUIYANG: Police in southwest China said Monday they had seized a man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a court police officer last week.

He Shengkai, 29, was apprehended in Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, Sunday afternoon, four days after he is alleged to have forced his way into the city's Intermediate People's Court, and killed one officer and injured three others.

A spokesman with Zunyi Public Security Bureau said at a press conference that He had admitted carrying out the attack. "He admitted he had attacked the court out of resentment."

He was sentenced at a junior court in Zunyi to two and a half years in jail in 2005 on charges of maliciously wounding other people. His appeal against the ruling was turned down by the Intermediate People's Court.

"He admitted he had sought revenge after he was released from prison in March last year," the spokesman said.

He is alleged to have broken into the intermediate court in downtown Zunyi at 4 pm Wednesday, stabbed a court policeman, two security guards and a woman clerk with two knives, and fled.

The policeman died at hospital that night. The other three injured are still being treated in hospital.
