Updated: 2009-10-28 13:41 A symposium on Buddhism was unveiled at the Dacien Temple in Xi'an on October 27, attracting accomplished Buddhist monks, Buddhist experts and ambassadors.
Themed "Free Your Mind at Dacien Temple, View Chang'an in its Heyday", the symposium will focus primarily on the history of Buddhism in Chang'an (now Xi'an), the fusion of Chang'an Buddhism with other cultures, as well as the value of Chang'an Buddhism.
"It is of significant meaning that we can hold this symposium in the Dacien Temple, where Xuan Zang, a famous Chinese Buddhist monk, translated so many scriptures," said Xu Jialu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, at the opening ceremony. "Buddhism has become an international religion, and only when we keep pace with the breakneck social development, can we contribute to a harmonious global environment." An artistic performance was presented after the opening ceremony, where several famous actors made the scene. The symposium will run until October 29. |
