Updated: 2009-11-06 02:12 HONG KONG: A high-speed ferry travelling from Hong Kong to the Southern Chinese city of Guangzhou collided with another ship on Thursday, killing two foreign passengers, a marine official said. The high speed, double-decker ferry had been nearing its destination in Guangzhou's southern Panyu district when it struck a sand transport vessel, a spokeswoman for the Hong Kong Marine Department said.
But an employee of Shilou hospital, where some of the victims were taken, confirmed one of the deceased was a Dutch citizen, Hong Kong's Cable Television reported. A staffer contacted by Reuters at the hospital's emergency ward refused to comment on the accident. The Chu Kong Passenger Transport Co., which owns the ferry, said 75 passengers and nine crew were on its ship at the time. |
