Chinese president meets with head of Hong Kong SAR

SINGAPORE: Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Saturday morning with Chief Executive Donald Tsang of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China.

President Hu commended the efforts the Hong Kong SAR government had made to maintain financial stability and its policy orientation in the future.

Hu said the economic situation in the Hong Kong SAR had improved recently and expressed his wish that the Hong Kong SAR government would continue to keep a close eye on the development of the international economic and financial situation and do a good job in responding to it.

The Chinese president also said he hoped that the Hong Kong SAR government would make more efforts to promote economic growth and improve people's lives to maintain prosperity and stability in Hong Kong.

Tsang informed Hu about the recent situation in the Hong Kong SAR. He thanked the central government for its support to Hong Kong in fighting the impact of the global financial crisis.

Hu and Tsang are in Singapore to attend the 17th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
