Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, attended the opening ceremony.
After the ceremony, Li visited the museum and listened to introductions about the origin, development and evolution of the Chinese characters, and the literal development of minority people.
The unique Chinese characters have played an important role in uniting the Chinese people of all nationalities during its history of more than 5,000 years, and the establishment of the museum is regarded as a grant event in the cultural undertakings of the country.
Li hoped that the museum could help promote the study of the Chinese characters in a deeper and broader way and the Sino-foreign exchanges in the field.
State-Councilor Liu Yandong addressed the opening ceremony, saying that Anyang is the very place where oracles, with primitive Chinese characters written on animal bones, were found. The museum will be built into a patriotic educational base, said Liu.
The China Literal Museum is officially opened in Anyang City of Henan Province, north China, Nov. 16, 2009.[Xinhua]
