It is China's most cultural and biological diverse province and for 100 years the Yunnan library has been preserving its rich history for future generations to enjoy.

Now, for their first centennial celebration the Yunnan Province Library is planning an international conference to exchange their wealth of findings from their multi-ethnic culture and how to best share them with the outside world.

The goal of the conference is to bring together librarians, information engineers, educators as well as experts and professionals in other fields, from both China and aboard, to exchange ideas and share research findings about multi-ethnic culture, resource development and information sharing.

The conference covers a broad range of topics on multi-ethnic culture and information society, including roles of public libraries in a multi-level, multi-cultural, and multi-ethnic information society. It also covers the development of culture, diversity and resources.

Li Youren, director of Yunnan Provincial Library, which is located in Kunming and founded in 1909, said, "The conference provides a forum for scholars from different traditions and backgrounds to share their views and perspectives on how to preserve and promote the traditional culture of ethnic minorities in a multi-level, multi-cultural, and multi-ethnic information society.

"The conference will generate valuable ideas for advancing services to disadvantaged social groups and rural developments in the province."
