China and the European Union have signed five agreements signaling the start of new cooperation in areas of technological advancement, energy-efficiency and sustainable development.
China’s premier Wen Jiabao and European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso inked the documents at the 12th China-EU summit in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, China Daily reported Monday.
The five agreements are the China-EU technology cooperation agreement; the second phase of memorandum of understanding on near-zero coal carbon emission project; China-EU financial agreement on the environment improvement project; China-EU financial agreement on “supporting China’s sustainable trade and investment system” and the memorandum of understanding on energy consumption of construction industry and quality cooperation.
Wen Jiabao and Jose Manuel Barroso were present at the signing ceremony and then held a news conference together.
