Mainland investors encouraged to invest in Taiwan

TAICHUANG: A seminar was held on Wednesday to encourage mainland investors to invest in Taiwan on the third day of a high-level cross-Straits trade talks.

The event was organized by the Beijing-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) and Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), which were holding their fourth round of talks since June last year.

In an opening statement, ARATS president Chen Yunlin urged the island to provide a favorable and safe investment environment for mainland investment.

So far, mainland investors have funded more than 20 projects in Taiwan, with investment of $5 million since the island was open to mainland investment in July last year. In contrast, Taiwan investors have invested over $70 billion in nearly 70,000 projects.
