Police in Luoyang, Henan province, detained a woman who spoke in a man's voice for months to dupe a friend, desperate for a boyfriend, of 70,000 yuan.
When Guo, a hair salon owner, told Liu she was desperately searching for love, the latter promised to give her number to a "single man" she knew of.
Liu, pretending to be a man named Xue, phoned Guo that same day.
After months of talking on the phone, "Xue" told Guo that "he" required 70,000 yuan to start a business.
When Xue stopped calling after the money transfer, Guo phoned the police, who told the victim she had been having a "phone affair" with a woman.
