An Expo-themed forum was held in Shanghai's Songjiang District Sunday, featuring the theme "Urban development and the green economy."

The forum was aimed to promote communication and cooperation among cities, explore how to optimize economic structure while creating a green economy, transform development modes, look for best solutions in human development and ecological harmony and accelerate the integration of humans, cities and the environment.
Developing a green economy is the only way to transform the development mode, optimize energy structures and enhance national competence for China, said Zhao Yang, deputy director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Chinese State Council.
Ma Chunlei, deputy director of the Publicity Department of Chinese Communist Party's Shanghai committee, said that the forum's insights will better define the Expo theme "Better city, better life" and will be useful thoughts for larger discussions on urban development and ecological harmony.
Sheng Yafei, Party secretary of Shanghai's Songjiang District, said that he wished this forum could be a new start for Songjiang's urban and economic development, will accelerate Songjiang's economic and social development and push forward the district's preparations for Expo 2010.
Views shared during the forum also included sustainable development of innovations in cities and communities, the cooperation of cities and development of low-carbon cities, and energy management in buildings.
The forum will end today. This is the 10th district-level Expo forum in Shanghai, which has been held in districts such as Luwan, Jinshan, Huangpu, Pudong, Putuo, Minhang, Jing'an, Fengxian and Jiading.
