By the end of 2009, more than 610,000 applicants were competing for an opportunity to volunteer during the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China, a local official said on Tuesday.
Ma Chunlei, an official with the municipal publicity department, said the applicants came from 109 countries and regions, and 3,001 of them applied via the Internet.
Ma said the applicants aged from 16 to 99 are mainly residents of Yangtze River Delta region and have various professions. Most of them have a specialty such as psychological consultative knowledge, gesture language, emergency assistance skill and foreign languages.
