BEIJING: China's minister of public security Tuesday urged police nationwide to "go deep" into communities when carrying out security checks during the Spring Festival, or the Chinese New Year, which falls on February 14 this year.
Minister Meng Jianzhu said at a video-conference that police should work out tailored solutions for areas found with major security problems.
Zhang reaffirmed the need to continue cracking down on robberies, burglaries, swindling, prostitution, underground forces, and human and drug trafficking.
He also stressed the importance of blotting out illegal guns and ammunition.
On the same day, China's ministry of civil affairs held a meeting on addressing public order in a few rural areas.
