SANTIAGO - A Chinese plane carrying $2 million worth of aid arrived in Chile's capital Santiago on Friday, a local eyewitness told Xinhua.

The Boeing 747-400 from the Air China cargo fleet was carrying 10,000 blankets, 700 tents, 100 generators and two water purification facilities. The aid materials were collected over five days in several Chinese cities including Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Nanjing, Weihai and Suzhou.

On February 27, Chile was hit by an earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale, which has killed at least 279 people.
