FUZHOU - Five drug traffickers have been seized by police in east China's Fujian province, and another died of injuries from a shooting in an escape attempt.

Acting on tips, police in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian, launched an operation to seize the suspects on an expressway near the city from late Friday night till early Saturday morning, according to a statement issued by the Fuzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau.
A suspect surnamed Chen refused to have his car checked by police at an expressway entrance and even drove onto a police officer. The officer dodged and fired a shot at Chen.
Chen continued to drive on the expressway for escape. Police later caught up with him about 1,300 meters away from the expressway entrance, and found Chen could not move due to shooting injuries.
Chen died despite medical staff were called in to treat him on the expressway.
Police later seized five other suspects and confiscated 1,117 grams of drugs, a handgun, dozens of rounds of ammunition and a long knife, among others.
The case is being further investigated.
Local procuratorate authorities are investigating the cause of Chen's death.
