China's media industry output grew 16.3 percent year-on-year to 491 billion yuan ($72 billion) in 2009, with operating revenue from newspaper advertisements increasing 8 percent to 37 billion yuan despite the global economic downturn, according to a report by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on Wednesday.

The report said a stable economic growth, especially in the fast development of sectors including property, automobiles and electronic products, was the main reason for the growth of China's media industry.

In 2010, total output of China's media industry is expected to grow 14.5 percent year-on-year to 562 billion yuan, the report said.
