One dead, 28,000 evacuated due to flood

One person died and 28,000 were forced to flee after the water level in the Xiang River, Central China’s Hunan province, rose by three to six meters due to heavy rain upriver, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said.

The average rainfall since April 17 reached 79 mm in Hunan province. A total of 280,000 people were affected by the flood, and one died in a landslide.

Thousands of houses also collapsed in the flood.
