CHANGSHA: Police in south China are hunting a man suspected of killing his wife and her parents.

Initial investigations showed that Li Jun, 42, was suspected of carrying out the killings in rural Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, on April 24, said a spokesman for Xiangtan police, Monday.

His wife's younger sister was injured and being treated in hospital after the attack in Baota Township, Yuetang District, he said.

He was alleged to have attacked the victims with a fruit knife after his wife threatened to divorce him because of his gambling and violence, the spokesman said.

Xiangtan police had yet to apprehend Li, the spokesman said.
