For the first time, global auto makers exhibited new cars solely designed for Chinese consumers at the 2010 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, Beijing Morning Post reported Monday.

Leading auto makers, ranging from Nissan to GM to Volkswagen, emphasized the concept of "Made for China" at the show. China's auto market surged past the US last year to become No 1. Car makers are trying to design new cars to fit Chinese tastes, modifying luxury cars with a bigger back seat to suit China's new rich.
